Rene Russo is the daughter of Shirley Balocca, a barmaid who worked in a factory and Nino Russo. She was born on the 25th of July, 1970 in Burbank California. Rene's father, a mechanic and sculptor, left the family around the age of two. The mother of the child raised Rene and her sister Toni by herself. Her father was Italian descent and her mother was of Italian and German-English-Irish origins. Rene suffered from scoliosis during her junior high years and required a full-torso support. Some of her classmates called them Jolly Green Giant because she was tall. The brace she was wearing was taken off when she began Burroughs High School, and even though her classmate Ron Howard joined her there also, Rene was somewhat of an outcast. Unable to deal with academics and the school social scene Rene was kicked out of school in the tenth grade. To save money, Rene took a series of work-study jobs over 18 months. Many were free. A movie theater was one of them, and she got free tickets to film shows. In a restaurant, she received free meals. It was a double job. The last one she had, which only paid a salary was a full-time job at an eyeglass manufacturing plant, which was responsible for checking contact lenses.
